Why choose a hog roast in Hollingdean?

Next to a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Why us?

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. For christmas fairs and staff days and open days, we’ll put together a menu of coleslaw, rotisserie chicken and halloumi skewers for your guests.

Common questions in Hollingdean

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

What’s the nearest station to Hollingdean?

The closest is Moulsecoomb station, roughly 0.5 miles away.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we will check.

Do you cook it or do we?

Either: we can cater fully or hire out the machine. Catering is the most popular choice.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Is mains power needed?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

Step by step

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. Planning an evening hog roast in Hollingdean? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.
