Hog roast hire in Henfield, carved to order

Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. Typical bookings include wakes and memorial gatherings and clubhouse events, serving crackling, coleslaw and new potatoes.

There may be a hall or playing field near Henfield if the garden is small; any can work, with the owner’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish before booking.

Henfield: your questions answered

Is Henfield close to London?

About 40 miles from central London.

Can you cater after a service at St Peter's Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How big a hog will we need?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

When should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

Do you serve the food?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

How does hog roast hire work?

You choose the date, the menu and the serving time; we do the rest. All we need is a place to cook outdoors.

Do you clear up?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

We’ll agree a contact for the day, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal.

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which works well for larger groups.

Stuffing and apple sauce

No hog roast roll is complete without sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce, balancing the rich, salty pork.

For event organisers in Henfield

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Bringing a hog roast to Henfield

Henfield is about 7 miles north of Shoreham-by-Sea, in West Sussex. Wherever your event is in Henfield, we can bring the roaster, given a suitable outdoor cooking area. Henfield is one of 371 towns and villages in West Sussex where we cater. Our nearest city page is Brighton, about 9 miles away.

For a christening or gathering after a service at a church such as St Peter's Church, the roaster can be set up at a hall or home nearby. Henfield is within about 8 miles of the South Downs National Park, and some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles on site. Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers.

Here we cover the BN5 postcode area. Whether your event is on Upper Station Road, High Street and Lower Station Road or a nearby road, we will bring the roaster to you. Planning the cooking spot

It is worth planning the cooking area in advance. We look for:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

How we price a hog roast

Things that change the price:

  • Crockery choices
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Numbers
  • Travel to Henfield

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What to tell us

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Where the event is

Send us the date, the address or BN5 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We will check the date and send a quote. Fill in our quote form.

How it works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. In Henfield, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Preparing for the day

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
