About our hog roast hire in Whitley Wood

Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. For confident cooks, the machine can be hired on its own. We serve salads, new potatoes and rotisserie chicken, and we’re frequently booked for summer garden parties and birthdays and anniversaries.

In a smaller place like Whitley Wood, a hog roast in the garden is often the simplest option: plenty of room, no hire fees and nobody stuck in the kitchen. Let us know how we reach the garden. Timings are planned around your event, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Space, access and the venue

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. Around midsummer it stays light in Whitley Wood until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Getting ready for the day

Planning help

Organising for someone else?

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Full catering or machine hire?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

What affects the price in Whitley Wood

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • The number of people
  • The journey to the venue
  • Time on site
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Getting an accurate quote

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Dietary requirements
  • Rough numbers

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

The menu, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which suits bigger events.
