What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Travel to Itchen
  • Site access
  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • How many people are eating

A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

What happens on the day

Carving is part of the show: the hog is carved in front of your guests, with crackling for everyone who wants it. Around midsummer it stays light in Itchen until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

How to get a price

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of the cooking area helps. Send us your details through our quote form.
