Book a hog roast in Deal

Hog roast hire in Deal, slow-roasted on site

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, for hours, under a gazebo outside. Then our chef carves it and the team serves it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. We’re frequently asked to cater club events and presentations and festive gatherings, serving new potatoes, salads and spit-roast lamb.

Most bookings in a town like Deal are at homes, halls, clubs and workplaces. Each works well, given level ground with clearance overhead. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: golden, crunchy and salty.

Your questions about a hog roast in Deal

What’s the nearest station to Deal?

The closest is Deal station, roughly 0.5 miles away.

We’re gathering after a service at St Saviour's: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do we need our own staff?

You do not need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

How much room do you need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will confirm the space with your quote.

How much will it be?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Do you bring plates?

Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

Both are available: we can cater fully or hire out the machine. Most people choose catering.

How it works

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we have agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. Around midsummer it stays light in Deal until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:50pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Send final numbers in good time

What affects the price in Deal

The biggest factors are:

  • Crockery choices
  • The date and time of year
  • Time on site
  • How many people are eating

Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

What to tell us

When you enquire, please mention:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Where the event is
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

Every event is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your event: use our quote form.

Catered or do it yourself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Hog roast hire around Deal

Deal is about 14 miles east of Canterbury, in Kent. We are happy to travel to Deal for events and the places nearby. Deal is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent where we cater. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 14 miles away.

If you had Betteshanger Park in mind, ask the council or landowner first: we can’t simply set up a roaster in a public park. For a christening or gathering after a service at a church such as St Saviour's, the roaster can be set up at a hall or home nearby. Deal is within about a mile of the sea, and coastal sites can be windy. We plan a sheltered cooking spot on windy days.

Events anywhere in CT14 start with an outdoor spot for the roaster and a serving time. Local streets include London Road, Forelands Square and Herschell Square; an event on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Being close to the A258 and B2056, Deal is easy for us to reach with the roaster. If your venue is just outside Deal, we also cover Mill Hill (1 mile west), Walmer (1 mile south), Sholden (1 mile north-west), Sholden Meadows (1 mile north-west) and Great Mongeham (1 mile west). For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers typically set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

Looking after everyone

Some guests will not eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, quoted separately.

Perfect for your event in Deal

Rolls are easy to eat standing up, which makes a hog roast ideal for relaxed events, while plates and sides suit a sit-down meal.

Whatever the occasion in Deal, a hog roast feeds a crowd well. We are often asked to cater:

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Why choose a hog roast in Deal?

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which frequently makes it better value. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.
